While the Turkish, Persian, and Central Asian elements of Uzbekian folklore ar preserved, Usmanova's music reflects the influences of Western rock, jazz, and dance music as well. According to German music magazine publisher, Stereoplay, Usmanova's "rhythms and melodies ar based on Turkish-Ottoman bar and harmoniousness structures only avoid that harmony nerve-killing for European ears." A graduate of the Department for Oriental Music at the Conservatorium in Taschkent, Uzmanova attracted world attention when she placed number 1 in a contest at the number one Voice of Asia fete in 1991. Her debut record album, Alma Alma, released two years subsequently, was followed by her inauguration European turn. Although her number one deuce albums, Alma Alma and Jannona, released in 1995, were marked by legion phrases from the Koran or Bible and the classical poets, Usmanova began to focus on the writings of mod poets, including Muhammed Yussuf, with her third attempt, Binafscha, in 1996. A old silk actor, Usmanova launched her music vocation as a traditional marriage ceremony vocalizer. She has been credited with instituting formal concerts in Uzbekistan. While her songs were once subject to official state scrutiny, Usmanova has benefited in the ever-changing culture of her fatherland.
