Story studied classical pianissimo piece growing up in Southern California and regular thought around seemly a medicine bibliothec or theorist for a while. Then she heard jazz piano player Bill Evans at a New York club, and the see changed her perspective on medicine overnight. Story, world Health Organization had studied at Juilliard and was enrolled at Hunter College at the fourth dimension, abandoned her academic program in favor of jazz lessons with Sanford Gold, a teacher Evans had recommended. Back in Los Angeles, she continued her musical education at UCLA and the Dick Grove Music Workshops, merely it was a job playing piano at a French eating place that sparked her major discovery as a composer. Since the presence casing of the pianissimo was missing, Story had no place to put her sheet music and was forced to extemporize freely. Eventually, she frame some of her ad-lib compositions on tape and sent them to Windham Hill. Within four-spot days, Will Ackerman had called her back and the sign on was sign-language for her first release, Solid Colors, an album of impressionistic pianissimo miniatures. Over the course of basketball team recordings, including a two-album stint with RCA Novus, Story's style has expanded to admit electronic duets with Mark Isham and works for assorted types of ensembles, in time the piano remains the big vocalization in her finely crafted compositions.
