The Verdict: Casino Royale gave the 007 series a welcome shake-up by introducing Daniel Craig as a "Bond who bleeds" — but are we ready for a Bond who remembers? Quantum of Solace will purportedly pick up a few minutes after the ending of Royale, and in it Bond will apparently seek revenge for the death of that film's love interest (she had brown hair, we think). This could be problematic if you, like us, tend to forget the silly, negligible plots of these things the minute after they're over; will filmmakers actually expect us to recall things from a previous movie? We vaguely remember a poker game and a chase sequence, but that's about it. Presumably there was a super-villain bent on hatching some sort of wacky scheme, but that's purely speculation. Luckily Quantum will also feature the usual explosions, stunts, and boats jumping over other boats, the enjoyment of which would not seem to depend on your having paid attention during the preceding film (we hope).

Christie Brinkley settles divorce case

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former supermodel Christie Brinkley's sensational divorce to her fourth husband ended abruptly on Thursday with a settlement, a spokeswoman for Brinkley said.

"After five days of trial and for the sake of their children, Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook have reached an agreement," spokeswoman Amy Jacobs said in a statement.

Cook revealed during testimony he had an affair with his 18-year-old assistant and spent $3,000 a month on Internet pornography. Brinkley, who asked for full custody of the couple's two children, said that her "perfect life" had been shattered by the revelations.

The settlement was reached at 6:15 a.m. after all-night negotiations, Jacobs said.

"I didn't want this trial. It's humiliating for all of us," Brinkley had said on the witness stand in New York family court in Central Islip, Long Island.

The agreement awarded Brinkley, 54, full custody of the children, aged 10 and 13, and gave Cook, 49, a financial settlement of $2.1 million as well as "parenting time."

Brinkley will retain all of the couple's properties, including 18 in the Hamptons, which were at dispute because Cook had advised the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model to buy them during their 10-year marriage.

The couple had spent the opening five days of trial trading allegations about whether Cook was a fit parent.

Scottish DJ CALVIN HARRIS has become the latest star to hit out at British music magazine NME - poking fun at the publication's spelling and grammar in a fake job application.

Superproducer Mark Ronson recently lashed out at NME bosses and branded the people who work there "morons" following the publication's scathing review of his recent performance at English music festival Glastonbury.

Now Harris has waded into the argument, stating that he objects to the publication's choice to make his name "synonymous with s**t. ALL the time!"

Harris also went one step further, sending a cheeky email to magazine chiefs after spotting a job advertisement looking for a reporter for the magazine.

He writes on his MySpace.com internet page, "A couple of days ago when I got home after a few shandys, I saw they were advertising for new staff writers, so I decided to apply, to try to even out the balance of opinion on my music. Here's the email I sent them: 'Hiya, can I have the NME reporter job please? I think I'd be really great.

"My cousin once shared a bong with Petey DoCher's from Babyshambles's's. I love you, Calvin xxxx.'

"But imagine my delight when I received this response: 'Thank you for your application for the News Reporter job at NME. We hope to be in touch in due course.' Superb! I'd be lying if I said I didn't think I was in with a shout."

The singer with the Co Meath outfit and her partner Derek Byrne welcomed baby Oscar into the world on Sunday morning.
He was born at The Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital in Dublin and weighted in at 5.2 lbs.
Ham Sandwich, who released their debut album 'Carry The Meek' earlier this year, are due to play a number of dates over the coming weeks, including a slot at the Glastonbury Festival in two weeks' time.
It is not yet clear if Farrell will make an appearance at the festival.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that she and husband Chris Martin of Coldplay may have one more baby, and that she is also open to the idea of adopting a child.
Speaking about whether she would have a third child in an interview with fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar that will be published in the July edition, she said: "I may force myself to do it one more time because the result is so worth it."
On adopting a child, she added: "I do feel we're so fortunate, and we kind of owe it to humanity. We have a lot of love to give and a lot of resources."
Paltrow also spoke about the difficulty of returning to movie making after a four-year break.
The 'Iron Man' star said: "In this business, they don't look back, and they're particularly harsh to women. I'm not 25; I'm 35. I'm not someone to discover; I'm someone who people know."

Jay-Z played his final gig before his headline appearance at Glastonbury this weekend (June 28), performing at the Hove festival in Arendal, Norway last night (June 23).

Taking the main stage in front of 18,000 fans at 10.15pm (CET), the rapper played an hour-and-a-half set, which included covers of Rihanna's 'Umbrella', The Prodigy's 'Smack My Bitch Up', Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab' and Estelle's 'American Boy', giving some big hints about possible numbers he will perform at Glastonbury.

Dressed all in black, with dark sunglasses and sporting two medallions Jay-Z arrived on the island of Tromoy, where the festival takes place, via speedboat before being dropped off backstage in a BMW marshalled by two security quad bikes visible on the stage's video screens as the set commenced.

With a entourage of 36 people joining him at the bash, the Brooklyn-based rapper was joined onstage by a ten-piece band, including a full brass section and two percussionists all dressed smartly in white shirts and black waistcoats. He began with 'Say Hello' after shouting, "The Roc boy is in the building tonight."

His set included many huge crowd favourites drawn from his fourteen year career including '99 Problems', 'It's A Hard Knock Life', 'Big Pimpin', 'Song Cry', 'Girls Girls Girls', and 'Encore'.

Despite Jay-Z's love of collaborations, rapper Memphis Bleek was the only vocalist who assisted Jay-Z onstage, joining him for three songs.

There were loud boos from the crowd mid-set as the stage visuals froze with a picture of American president George W Bush shortly followed by loud cheers as image of Presidential candidate Barack Obama appeared on the large video backdrop.

The backdrop also displayed images of the fallout of Hurricane Katrina, which struck New Orleans in 2005, and clips from a variety of Jay-Z videos.

Speaking from the stage Jay-Z said: "I appreciate the love tonight Hove, it's a beautiful feeling � lets do one more, I owe you guys," before concluding his set with the Linkin Park-remixed version of 'Encore'.

Ange forgives Jack over 'twins' call

Jack Black thinks Angelina Jolie has forgiven him for revealing she was having twins on live television.

Speaking at the premiere of his new film Kung Fu Panda in London's Leicester Square, Jack said he is pretty sure the Wanted actress hasn't held a grudge after he let the secret slip during the film's world premiere at Cannes Film Festival.

He said: "I think she has forgiven me. I haven't spoken to her since the event. But I never spoke to her before the event either so it's pretty much the same as it always was. I think she's neutral on the subject of me."

The star made an impressive entrance as he was carried along the red carpet, before posing with a life-sized version of his character in the film, Po.

He said: "They carried me in through this back alley in Chinatown in a little ramshackle hut. Luckily they had four really strong guys. I was worried that somebody was going to get a hernia.

"And I came bursting out of it like a jack-in-a-box and did some kung fu."

The Apprentice producer Mark Burnett is facing legal action from his former business partner in a row over unpaid profits of more than $70 million (?35 million). The two-times Emmy winner, who is also the brains behind reality TV show Survivor, is accused of cheating Conrad Riggs out of profits from the programmes they pitched together to network bosses. Riggs, who worked for Walt Disney Co., filed the suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday . According to the legal papers, the pair produced more than 12 TV projects together, but their business relationship went sour when Burnett reneged on a long-standing agreement, which stated Riggs would receive 10 per cent of the 38-year-old's profits. Riggs claims his advice to Burnett regarding the format of Survivor may have played a big part in helping to sell the desert island show to various networks. The lawsuit reads, "(Riggs) encouraged Burnett to pitch 'Survivor' as if he were telling a story around a campfire - in a way that would allow network executives to visualize the feel and attraction of the show." Riggs claims the payments stopped in February 2007 and that he was evicted from Burnett's company offices earlier this year .

REM have been confirmed as one of the headliners at this year's Oxegen Festival.
Michael Stipe and Co join Kings of Leon for the extended three day event which takes place from 11 to 13 July at Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Co Kildare.
Stipe attended the festival last year during recordings for the band's forthcoming album 'Accelerate'. The album is set for release on 1 April and was recorded in Co Westmeath.
'Supernatural Superserious' is the first single to be taken from the new album, and is now available digitally.
Tickets for Oxegen will go on pre-sale to those registered on the festival's website from Monday 3 March at 8am until 8pm on Thursday 6 March, limited to four tickets per person. Tickets go on general sale on Friday 7 March at 8am.
With the event extended to three days, the campsite will open on the Thursday night for fans wishing to get an early spot. However, promoters MCD will be charging an additional €20 for the privilege of getting there early.

Originally released in September 1977, Billy Joel's fifth studio album,
The Stranger, marked the first of Joel's highly successful collaborations

Billy Joel has had 33 Top 40 hits and 23 Grammy nominations since
signing his first solo recording contract in 1972. He received the
Recording Industry Association of America Diamond Award, presented for
albums that have sold more than 10 million copies, for his "Greatest Hits
Volume I and Volume II."

Taking its name from a key track on The Stranger, "Movin' Out," a
Broadway musical based on Joel's music, choreographed and directed by Twyla
Tharp, was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and took home two including Best
Orchestrations -- Billy's first Tony Award win -- and Best Choreography.

Billy Joel received Grammy awards for Record of the Year and Song of
the Year in 1978 for his song "Just the Way You Are"; Album of the Year in
1979 for 52nd Street; and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1979 for 52nd
Street and in 1980 for Glass Houses In 1990, he was presented with a Grammy
Legend Award. Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992, he was
also presented with the Johnny Mercer Award in 2001. In 1999 he was
inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and in 2004 received a star on
the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His other awards include the ASCAP Founders
Award, the BMI Career Achievement Award, the American Music Awards Award of
Merit, and the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal.

Billy Joel has donated his time and resources to a variety of
charitable causes, and he has recently launched an ongoing educational
initiative to provide seed money, musical scholarships, and endowments to a
variety of East Coast colleges, universities, and music schools. For his
accomplishments as a musician and as a humanitarian, he was honored as the
2002 MusiCares Person of the Year by the MusiCares Foundation and the
National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences; he has also received a
humanitarian award from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

The net proceeds of Billy Joel's latest composition, "Christmas in
Fallujah," inspired by soldiers' letters from Iraq, are being donated to
Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit organization that builds specially
adapted homes for disabled service members returning from Iraq and
Afghanistan.

When it was announced earlier this year that Billy Joel -- who holds
the Madison Square Garden record for the longest sequence of sold-out shows
by a single artist (12) -- would perform the last concerts at New York's
fabled Shea Stadium, more than 110,000 tickets were sold out in 45 minutes.
Joel's historic "Last Play At Shea" sold-out concerts are scheduled for
July 16 and 18.

U2 Basquiat Painting Expected To Raise 6 Million Pounds

A painting by the late US artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, which is owned by U2, is set to go under the hammer later.

Untitled (Pecho/Oreja) is expected to fetch £6million at Sotherby's in London.

The painting was initially spotted by the band's bassist Adam Clayton in 1989 and has hung at U2's studios in Ireland ever since.

Basquiat was originally a graffiti artist in New York and the record for his work currently stands at £7.4million.

This lineup carried on through 1994, recording albums for labels including Kama Sutra, Rounder, and Mercury (At Yankee Stadium), as well as their have Red Rooster. NRBQ and its members have worked with Skeeter Davis (1985's She Sings, They Play), John Sebastian, jazz artist Carla Bley, and level unofficial managing director and wrestling headliner Captain Lou Albano, wHO appeared on 1986's Lou and the Q. Joey Spampinato appeared in the Chuck Berry picture show Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll as a fellow member of the backing band. In 1989, the dance orchestra got another one-album major-label deal with Virgin, which resulted in Wild Weekend, their first album to ready the charts since the debut record. Al Anderson linked a Nashville publishing house in 1991 and had songs recorded by respective major rural area artists, including Alabama, Carlene Carter, and Ricky Van Shelton. After recording Message for the Mess Age, the group's 1994 album for Forward Records, Anderson left NRBQ for a solo career. He was replaced months later by Spampinato's blood brother Johnny. Once accurately billed as "the world's fastest saxist," Johnny Griffin (an influence tone-wise on Rahsaan Roland Kirk) has been one of the top bop-oriented tenors since the mid-'50s. Bruce Springsteen has officially given democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama his backing.

Hollywood star Sandra Bullock and her husband, Jesse James, were struck by a drunk driver last Friday night while travelling in a private car, according to a report by People magazine.
The magazine reports that Bullock, who is currently filming 'The Proposal', was being driven through Gloucester, Massachusetts, when a grey Subaru station wagon smashed into their vehicle. No one was injured in the accident.

Yusef Lateef has long had an inquisitive spirit and he was never just a bebop or hard federal Bureau of Prisons soloist. The New York Post reports that the couple were married in a secret ceremony in Carey's house in Eleuthera which was attended by family and friends.

The John F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts said it would go ahead with plans to present its Mark Twain Prize for American Humour to the late George Carlin, making him the first comedian so honoured posthumously.

Carlin, the counter-culture figure famed for his provocative stand-up routines on such subjects as profanity, drugs and the demise of humankind, died on Sunday at age 71 after complaining of heart problems earlier in the day.

The Kennedy Center had only announced days before that Carlin was selected as the 11th recipient of its prestigious Mark Twain award, an honor bestowed annually at a black-tie gala televised on the Public Broadcasting Service network PBS.

"He was thrilled that he was chosen ... and today was the day we were supposed to talk on the phone about potential guests," said Mark Krantz, an executive producer of the show.

"So he was very much into it and was already agreeing to do some press, and we were getting ready to get the nuts and bolts worked out when this terrible thing happened."

After consulting with Carlin's family and PBS, the Kennedy Center decided to go forward with the ceremony as scheduled on November 10. The show, taped at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, will air on PBS at a date to be announced.

Last year's honoree was actor-comedian Billy Crystal. The first in 1998, was Richard Pryor, the only other recipient who is now deceased. Others have included Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, Bob Newhart, Steve Martin, playwright Neil Simon and Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels.

For Carlin's ceremony, producers will stick with the usual format described by Krantz as "a funny celebration of a career," with friends and peers telling stories and anecdotes and introducing clips of his work.

"He has a 50-year career to look back on," Krantz said. "He was the first host of Saturday Night Live. He did 130 Johnny Carson shows, he did 13 or more HBO specials, he's won four Grammys."

The Mark Twain prize is named for the 19th-century novelist, essayist and humorist whose given name was Samuel Clemens, author of such classics as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Contrary to Carlin's cantankerous stage persona, Krantz said the comedian was a "nice guy, and very Mark Twain-like in his observations".

"From his troublemaking childhood to his courtship of a fiery blonde named Jenny, Grogan writes about how he came to terms with who he is and what he believes."

"Even before `Marley & Me' was published, I knew this was the story I wanted to tell next," Grogan, 51, said in a statement. "`The Longest Trip Home' is a story very close to my heart."

A film version of "Marley & Me," starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, is slated for release in December.

DMX Arrested In Arizona For Speeding, Caught On Camera Driving 114 MPH

Rapper DMX was arrested Tuesday by officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety on charges of racing on a highway, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, two counts of endangerment and three counts of criminal speed, all stemming from an incident that took place January 21.

According to the DPS, DMX (real name: Earl Simmons) was photographed by stationary traffic cameras positioned along the Loop 101 freeway in Scottsdale, Arizona. The cameras caught DMX driving a bright yellow 1966 Chevy Nova II — with a large "DMX" decal emblazoned across the windshield — well over the posted 65 mph speed limit, not once but three times.

At 8:24 p.m., Simmons was photographed driving 100 mph, and then, one minute later, another camera caught him driving 114 mph. Less than three minutes later, DMX was caught on camera again, this time driving 101 mph.

The DPS launched an investigation into Simmons' driving habits not long after and found enough evidence to arrest the rapper at his home in Phoenix. The DPS said DMX cooperated with the arresting officers and was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail. He later posted bond and was released.

"This is an important arrest," said Roger Vanderpool, the director of the state's DPS. "Criminal speeding endangers the lives of everyone on the road. [Simmons] wasn't singled out because of his notoriety. We have made several arrests in the last few months of those people who flagrantly violate the speed limit and therefore endanger the lives of everyone else on the road."

Tuesday's arrest is the latest legal trouble the rapper has faced in the Copper State. In late August, deputies with the Maricopa County sheriff's office raided the rapper's Cave Creek, Arizona, home and seized 12 pit bulls from the residence. Officials said the animals were malnourished and kept in inhumane conditions. At the time of the raid, police also discovered a large cache of weapons in his home, and in the backyard, police dug up the charred remains of at least one dog. DMX has not been charged with any crime in connection to that incident.

The credits were first introduced in 2007 to help boost Italy's film industry. Last year $496 million (GBP298 million) was spent on movie shoots in the country.

"There are no divorce plans," Liz Rosenberg, Madonna's publicist, said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

Rumors that the London-based couple planned to split have been circulating for months, fueled most recently by reports that the singer had lined up Fiona Shackleton, a lawyer for Paul McCartney in his bitter divorce from Heather Mills.

The speculation reached a fever pitch last week in London, where the Daily Mirror newspaper dedicated two front pages to the plight of the couple's marriage.

Madonna, 49, and Ritchie, 39, married in December 2000 at Skibo Castle in northeast Scotland. They met at a party hosted by ex-Police frontman Sting and his wife Trudie Styler.

Their son, Rocco, was several months old on their wedding day, and in 2006 Madonna applied to adopt David Banda, a boy from Malawi whose mother died shortly after his birth. The adoption was approved by a Malawian court in May.

Madonna also has a daughter, Lourdes, from an earlier relationship. She was married once before, to Hollywood actor Sean Penn, in the 1980s.

Madonna is one of the most successful rock stars of all time, with global album sales estimated at more than 200 million copies. A multi-Grammy award winner, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March.
